We are starting this web log so that we can better keep mycology enthusiasts everywhere up to date on plans and developments regarding mushroom-hunting adventure opportunities in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America.

Our first bit of news actually turns out to be non-news, but hopefully will lead to something exciting in the future. It is simply that we had been working for many weeks in cooperation with the Amazon MycoRenewal Project people and the Ecuadorian Mycological Society to organize an extraordinary foray/travel experience to ECUADOR in January 2009. The plan was to include jungle habitats, higher forests and interaction with the project staff who are using pleurotus mushrooms to clean up toxic oil spills in the Amazon basin. Also planned was an optional guided cruise trip to visit the spectacular Galapagos islands.

But alas, the timing of world economic crashes and US political uncertainty conspired to make several frequent MexMush forayers we contacted, hold off on such a major trip at this time, even though total travel and tour costs would have been similar to earlier trips to Mexico. So, reluctantly we had to cancel that marvellous mushrooming adventure.

However, postponed may be a better word since the idea was too good to let lapse entirely. And now that the American political dust will soon be settling under a new, positive administration, personal finances and inclination to travel more again will not be far. Look for a revived Ecuador foray plan for maybe December 2009.
